Today we spent the whole day in the apartment, giving Doug an opportunity to recover from the last 2 days of chemotherapy. He is doing pretty well, with some stomach upset today and with symptoms worse this evening. We have had 2 visits from the doctors and nurse as scheduled in our apartment. Doug is now receiving 2 shots a day, 12 hours apart, to increase his stem cell count. This medication is called Filgrastim. He also began oral medications today to help with the side-effects of chemotherapy that he will be taking throughout the next week. These medications are Desamethasone, Ondansetron and Pantroprazole.
The doctor today assured us that what he is feeling is normal. Many of the other patients are having the same symptoms, with some having more distress. The doctor assured us he will feel better soon. I questioned if the chemo he will receive next week will be stronger. He said no, it will be the same. I was relieved to hear this. Doug is handling this level of distress fairly well. During the chemo treatments his blood pressure remained very good. It is up a little tonight. He has maintained normal body temperature so far.
While the side effects of the chemotherapy and the medications are not pleasant, we are reminded that this process is a road to recovery. We are hoping that the symptoms from chemotherapy will subside soon.
Holy One,we are grateful for the work of all the researchers and doctors who have developed this treatment. We give thanks for the tender care of our doctors and nurses here. We pray that Doug will feel better soon. Sustain his hope in this treatment and give him courage to face the days to come. In your name we ask it. Amen
Thank you for the updates. Prayers are coming your way for continuing success and peace.
